History
"A strange one she is. Better to just go about your way. She's a little too reckless for my liking..."
If one bothered to listen to the local gossip, she'd be considered a fluke, a curiosity, or even a witch.
Maybe..
She was..
Novae Moon, as she used to be called, was once a carbuncle kept by a notable summoner of ages past. Quite possibly from one of the first summoners to ever be considered successful in a Miqo'te tribe at the time. He studied summoning in the South Sea Isles. The bond her Keeper and Novae had formed while going through many hard times, and many battles, was quite strong. In her carbuncle form she was able to manifest for longer than most other carbuncle could. Her presence was seemingly more solid than most creatures of the aether. She may have been more akin to an anima than an actual Carbuncle. This could have been thanks to her Keeper's love for math, as his skills were quite renown, or it could have been due to his affinity for her. Or even his adept knowledge in soul stones. She was always seen by his side, as if she were his pet. She was known to even have slept close to him, ensuring his safety through the cold nights.
Their bond became so true that she would come without his needing to summon her, as if she could sense when he was in danger. He tied a pendant around her neck. A small oval shaped emerald. It was her first and only possession. Eventually Novae was able to start retaining memories, and even displayed traces of emotion.
They say carbuncles are just summoned aether given a temporary form.
In the end, aren't we all temporary?
Novae, and her Keeper traveled closely together in a land named Meracydia. It was a vast continent known for a large population of Keepers, as well as a species known as Au’Ra, among many others, and due to their draconian neighbors there was a lot of conflict. Times of peace became a rarity. Due to the conflict, a lot of Miqo’te kind traveled towards Gridania. The ones who didn’t paid dearly. Their village was pinched between the Allagan Empire, and the just as savage Au'Ra clans. The dragons paid homage to an elder primal. Under the force of the Empire, they turned this primal on the Keepers of the Moon tribes until their homelands were no more.
It was in the final burst of that conflict that Novae had lost him. It was lifetimes ago. So long ago that now, in her new manifestation, despite her soul’s longing to know him again, she doesn’t remember more than his face. And his presence...
______________________________________________
There he stood on the cliff, staring down into the gorge. His homeland miles behind him, a wreckage of what used to be a prosperous village known for trading food and clothing. And lots of fur. All his memories, his family, and all he had ever known was no more. The final image he held in his memory of a place he once loved that was now torn asunder shook him to the core. There was nothing to go back to. At this point all he was after was revenge. The Miqo'te summoner whispered a few words, and instantly she was at his side. Her small frame was luminescent, and glowed a magnificent cobalt blue. Shivering, the carbuncle adjusted to the new terrain. She glanced up at him, instantly noting something was very wrong.
“We’ve been through a lot together Nov.” He whispered, it was his pet name for her.
“I need you now more than ever.” He continued.
She stared up at him with a hint of confusion and panic. Why didn’t they leave with the others? Why was he so intent on staying behind? She didn’t know this was part of his plan. He wanted to cause one last distraction. The final battle. His last stand, to ensure the remainder of his people were able to escape the dragon’s wrath. The sun was slowly setting behind the mountains beyond. Everything was eerily quiet.
Novae had a bad feeling about all of this. She tried to remain vigilant despite her worries. Beaming up at him, Novae was just glad to be by his side. It was a wonder she didn’t sense what he was about to do. She felt uneasy, as if she should urge him to leave, but his will was also her own. By his side she would remain. A chill ran down her frame causing her to shiver more than normal.
There wasn’t really much time to think. The dragons came in very quickly. She remembered the sudden bass of their roars. The sheer volume was soul shaking. The wind hit her pelt hard from the beating of their wings. She remembered it took all she had to keep her footing. There was one large dragon who was rather infamous leading the flight. It was known as Twintania.
When the dragon parted it’s vast and toothy maw, it called from the skies a series of meteors. The first one hit the ground merely a few malms away. Why? Why did he decide to come alone? Was all Novae could think as she yelped and jumped back. He continued to quickly mutter and casted a few spells in return to the dragon's assault. Bio, Ruin, Tri-disaster, and finally Deathflare. But none of it was enough to actually stop the dragon in it’s tracks.
The second Meteor hit the ground with a quaking slam. Novae was sent flying one direction and he was sent another. She shook herself off, and tried to locate him through the settling debris. Her heart was pounding so fast she could hear it in her ears. It wasn’t hard for her to figure out where he went, because the strange collared dragon was right over him. It's mouth was poised for a flare blast. Novae’s heart sank. Something had to be done. And fast.
He's not alone. He has ..me.
The dragon inhaled deeply, as it hovered in the air above him. It’s fierce eyes locked upon their prey. Quickly Novae’s paws carried her as fast as her heart was pounding through the upturned landscape. She hopped over a fallen tree, some large rocks, and a lot of other indiscernible rubble.
It was probably too late.. she thought. I am probably too late..
The dragon unleashed it’s blast. There was a scream that wasn’t hers. Novae had barley managed to cast a protective barrier..
“No, please, I don’t want to lose you. I love you.”
He whispered softly. It was the last thing she could remember. Then there was a sudden explosion.
She lost the fight that day. But he didn’t..
That's all that matters.
A small stone was left on the ground, buried beneath the rubble. It shimmered, an emerald star, lost in the darkness. He was able to escape the dragon. The keeper reunited with his tribe, in Gridania, and from that day on became a renown scholar. He never again set foot into another battle. He never summoned another carbuncle.
Novae was suddenly face to face with to Hydaelyn. The Mother Crystal. She had been told she was to be rewarded for her efforts in saving her Keeper friend. Her soul was allowed to live on in a new existence. She was infused with a crystal of light, and made into a new being.
The density of Earth shuns Sun and harbors cold, and thus Ice is born.
Novae awoke in Eorzea, as you see her now. A curious form, part carbuncle, part Miqo'te, but neither at the same time. Her new form was a token to the link her, and her summoner had once shared. It was all she had to remember him by, and remember him was something she would never be able to fully do. Aside from strange flashes now and then, of his face, and his presence. The time she stood in now was eons past when she and her Keeper traveled together. His entire life had been lived, thanks to her. Hydaelyn had probably tried to erase her memory of him, to ease the pain of the loss. Did it really work?
"I just feel as if.. something is missing.."
She had to pick up the pieces and start a new life, in a new era, as a new being. She hardly understood anything at first. She remembered nothing. Confusing visions of the past often came to her in dreams, or at the strangest and most random times. They were often never things she could make very much sense of.
She was found by an infamous witch known as Matoya, and was able to stay with her long enough for her to manage to gain some of her bearings. She learned the basics of speech during this time. She found emotions to be quite confusing. Often times she would confuse them. For her this new form was quite challenging, if not constricting at times.
Most people upon seeing her probably mistook her for a Viera, or a strange Miqo'te. She was quite short. She had rather long ears, an emerald colored tint to her fur, and a strange scar along her face. Something to remember Twintania by. Deciding to stay away from civilization for the most part Novae began exploring the wilds. For a long time she considered the area surrounding Kugane as her home. The traders within the city often purchased the exotic goods Novae would come across on her adventuring for a fair amount of gil, and they rarely questioned her lineage due to the vast majority of other races in the area. So she found it to be to her liking. She partnered up with an Au’Ra friend who was known as Kanna, and for a year or two, they had many adventures together. Novae was able to learn to speak more clearly and even how read the local languages, and after a while, began to fit right in, as if she had always been.
Novae’s demeanor overtime became shy, and aloof. She never spoke to anyone unless they had spoken to her first. As if, they have to summon her. Her social skills are for the most part polite, if not lacking a little bit. She is prone to scratching her ear, or shivering at random in place like most carbuncles do. She also rarely eats. She will drink things however. A lot of people have taken offense to her seemingly olde ways. Thus causing her to have a bit of anxiety in most social interactions. She is known to randomly shiver and flee when exposed to large groups of people. Mainly due to her empathetic nature. Her own emotions were confusing enough. The presence of how others felt often made the strain worse.
As time passed, the two friends began to drift apart. Novae disliked the mercenaries that Kanna brought around, and eventually they went their own ways. Kanna joined the Ul'dah Travel Agency. It was a good route for the adventurous Au'Ra to take. Novae however, had became quite solitary over time due to a battle that had gone south. There were injuries, but thankfully no one was killed. She blamed herself, for forgetting the limitations of normal people.
Novae's healing methods were effective, but almost careless. She often waited till the last moment in battle to actually stop attacking and start healing. Novae, being very empathic, often struggled with the emotions of those who were in the vincinity with her. Specially when they experienced fear. Novae over time stopped traveling with mercenaries and eventually sought a new route for gaining and selling her wares. She quickly learned she worked better alone.
"A strange one she is. Better to just go about your way. She's a little too reckless for my liking..."
Maps and ancient dungeons became her favorite past time. She was a a favored healer to take on especially dangerous journeys. Either she didn't have any fear, or she simply lacked the common sense to be afraid. No one was actually sure. She spent quite a lot of time in the lands known as Eureka. And many treasures were discovered there, without the need to bring other adventurers.
"You can ask that strange blue tailed Miqo'te leaning over a tall cup of milk at the bar, but don't be surprised if she is the only one who returns with the treasure."
Reckless, aloof, and on her own agenda. She was a renown treasure hunter. But there was always the rumor that she had acquired her goods through immoral means. The truth was she just preferred to be alone. She couldn't explain it, but the company of others often caused her to build up anxiety. As if she couldn't ignore the fact that she felt as if something, or someone was missing. At times she could almost remember his face. For her it was easier to travel alone. She never had to explain her strange mannerisms, or even stranger memories of a life she was no longer living.
Novae often sought the ruins of fallen cities. As if there, she would find a clue, something to trigger what she couldn't fully place in her memory. Where did she come from? Who was he? What did she lose?
They liked to call her a thief. She preferred the term Treasure Hunter.. For the things she took were long lost by people no longer here. And forgotten. Trying to remember, and trying to be remembered.
Just like her.
Novae, having amassed a good amount of objects needing appraisal, had noticed a flyer for the trading company known as Lapis Luxury, a place known for dealing in eccentric wares. She needed a change of pace, and felt it was time to leave Kugane. However the area would always hold a special place in her heart. Home..?
In Kugane she found many treasures and rare goods, but she never found the answers she sought. So she eventually moved on to Ul'dah. Hopefully there she would discover even more ancient ruins to explore.
Soon she found herself wandering to the doorstep of Lapis Luxury. There she met Leilani. Who hired her as a healer, and as a hand to help acquire rare goods for their auctions. Her story from this point on is yet to be told..

Public Information
A well known healer and treasure hunter from Kugane. She has explored many a places others would fear going, and has returned with the treasure to prove her expeditions. Some consider her a witch because of her association with Matoya. And probably because she prefers to travel alone. However she made this decision because she simply doesn't want to be responsible for the lives of others.
She claims to be a Keeper of the Moon. They are known for larger ears, and longer fangs, however there are rumors that she isn't even a miqo'te at all.
Information through NPC's
Mistress Matoya:
"I found her wandering around, not too far from the very entrance of my cave. It was raining, and she was soaked, shivering. Looked like a lost cat. She didn't speak at all when we first met. Nor did she for a long while after. Whenever I asked where she was from, her eyes would wander and she would get this strange lost look. Poor child. She claims to be a Keeper of the Moon, but there is no tribe of her Surname. There is certainly something strange about that one. "
Ishizuki of the Sekiseigumi Barracks:
"She is a known antique trader here inside the walls of Kugane. Always has some manner of eccentric wares. Most of the things she brings however seem cursed in one way or another. Personally, I'd never buy from a witch or their associates..
Tsubame of Kugane, aka Little Swallow:
"I thought I was done for. Then she came along. She helped me out of a bad situation she did. I'm not too sure what happened to those who had kept me hostage however."
Dancing Wolf, Immortal Flames Captain:
"I've not seen anyone with a hunger for one on one combat like her. It's as if she feels no pain, or she is such a good healer you can't tell she was ever injured to begin with. She is oddly at home on the Frontlines, that one."
